Captain John Marshall is a character featured in RAGE and RAGE 2. He is the leader of the Resistance and one of the most important characters in the game. An Ark Survivor and former soldier, he, much like the protagonist, was designated to be a leader of men in the new world. He seems to know who the Visionary was before Apophis struck, and has a strong distaste for him.
John Marshall is first encountered in the Authority Prison, locked in a cell, as part of the quest "Liberate Captain Marshall". He later returns to Wellspring, where he works with Elizabeth Cadence and issues the mission to recover the protagonist's ID Drive from his Ark to get information about the Ark Program and some Eden Project details. Marshall then asks the protagonist to head to the Authority research center in the Dead City to recover research data and get information on the Authority experiments with mutants.
He then takes Nicholas to Subway Town as there is too much of a bounty on Raine's head and that it is far too risky to be seen around Wellspring anymore with the Authority looking for an Ark Survivor in the area. Upon arriving at Subway Town, he tasks Raine with getting on Mayor Redstone's good side so that Redstone will not get rid of him due to Raine's "being useless". After that, he will instruct Nicholas to talk with Mark Lassard about getting the Ark equipment from the Jackal Canyon. When that's done, he will ask the protagonist to talk with Jack Portman about assaulting the Authority Security Bridge. At last, John Marshall will initiate the assaulting Capital Prime mission to free all the Arks so that the Resistance can build an army to fight the Authority once and for all.
Marshall, along with Elizabeth Cadence and Jack Portman, are absent after completing the main campaign of RAGE, suggesting that they either retreated from the base, or were captured.
He is featured in Rage 2 as a returning main character. The player does a mission which will reward him/her with a Combat Shotgun.
